Roman Roundabout — straight ahead to Fenny Stratford
Fenny Stratford is straight ahead from this approach, so the left lane is the one to use — the right lane only goes right. The markings are faded here and there is an extra mini-roundabout on the second part.
The layout
From this direction Fenny Stratford is straight ahead, which means on this occasion we use the left lane, as the right lane only goes right. The road markings here are faded and very faint, but you still have to give way to the right at the roundabout.
What to plan for
- As you enter, be very careful — this is where a lot of learners lose marks.
- Keep your positioning to the outer lane as much as possible. It is very easy to drift into the middle lane and make the vehicle beside you slow down.
- On the second part of the roundabout you have to give priority to the right again, as there is an additional mini-roundabout here.
Where learners lose marks
Drifting inwards on the first part, and forgetting that the mini-roundabout on the second part is a separate give-way. Both are observation and positioning faults that are easy to avoid once you know they are coming.
Remember
Faded markings don't remove the rules. Give way to the right at every give-way line, and hold the outer lane when you're going straight ahead from the left lane.
